South Harrow and Roxeth Parks and Open Spaces
Despite the rapid and intense swallowing up of Roxeth farmland for housing
Roxeth Recreation Ground and Alexandra Park today provide areas
of open air for leisure and sport.
Roxeth Recreation Ground dates back to 1899 when following a small boy being killed
by a brewer’s dray in Northolt Road the Coroner at the inquest said there
should be a place of recreation for children.
One John Short took on the cause and his persistence eventually paid off.

ALEXANDRA PARK
Alexandra Park was donated to the area in the 1930s by Mr A B Champniss entrepreneur and developer
who at the time lived in the Paddocks (formerly Grove Farm) farmhouse in Northolt Road
and had developed much of the grounds into a popular venue for Londoner’s outings.
